It’s a Boy! – Maple Ridge Newborn Photographer

When Lisa emailed to see if I could find a time to shoot her brand new baby boy I knew I had to rearrange some things to make sure I could find time.  I just knew that her little boy would be precious and adorable… and I was right! Mr. E took a while to settle down (but in the meantime I got some great eye contact from him!) but once he was sleeping peacefully we managed to get some great shots with him.  So, welcome to the world, little Mr. E…

Gorgeous Family with a gorgeous backyard in gorgeous light – North Vancouver Family Photography

Do you think I enjoyed this shoot?  Do you think I think it was gorgeous?!?  Well, it was.  When Melody contacted me to shoot her extended family in her North Vancouver backyard I was a little nervous about shooting such a large group in a location I’d never seen.  One look at her backyard and my nerves were calmed.  A huge sectional couch was an amazing backdrop, plus cedar hedges along the edge, and the coolest rustic fence ever. (I’ve been told that I can have the fence when they renovate, and I just might take them up on the offer! It had so much great texture!)

Here are some of my favourites from the session:

Wedded Bliss- My brother’s Kelowna Wedding

This is going to be a long post! When my brother and his fiance Michelle announced that they were getting married outside in July, in Kelowna, I was stoked — I love shooting outdoor ceremonies.  I won’t lie, though… when I saw the forecast for 40 degree temperatures I was not quite as excited.  A big thank you to Lisa from Redfern Photography for helping me out during the ceremony and start of reception… you were a champ in the heat!

The day started at Michelle’s sister’s house in Carrs Landing… a gorgeous log home with AC. Make up was applied and hair was swept up, getting ready for the day.

Aren’t her dress, shoes and accessories just gorgeous?  I love these detail shots!

They got married at the Ellison Wedding Garden, which was a fabulous venue. The owner even invited us in to her home to get Michelle into her dress, as the day was so hot.   (So hot, check out how these amazing bridesmaids helped keep the bride cool while getting her dress on!)

There was ample bench seating for the guests, and a lovely walkway for the wedding party to walk down and into the ceremony.  Here are the ladies, making their way down to the walkway.

The guys were melting in their suits, but they look good doing it!

The wedding garden overlooks the Kelowna airport but we were lucky that no large airplanes took off or landed while the ceremony was happening.  Short, sweet, with amazing hand-written vows the ceremony was perfect.  You could just see the love between them.

I’ll show off a few of my favourite formal pictures to end this post…. and to say that I am so glad that Michelle has joined our family, and I wish you both many many years of happiness.

Nicholas, a Tiny Light

I met Nicholas, a cute, content 22 month old, last week for our session at his house with his parents and his sister.  The backyard was gorgeous with large trees and lush grass and a perfect setting for our shoot.  I love volunteering with the Tiny Light Foundation because I get to meet such special, amazing families, and Nicholas didn’t disappoint.

Nicholas has Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which you can read more about on his page… https://www.facebook.com/pages/A-Boy-Named-Nicolas/606296976126778  (and if you happen to be in Maple Ridge buying liquor, please go to the Maple Ridge Liquor Store on 207th and Lougheed and just mention Nicholas’ name at the cashier and the store will donate 5% of your sale to Nicholas’ cause.)

He is a fighter, a trooper, and shows us that although the forecast might look dark, you can always shine on.

Mommy and Me Mini Sessions – Coquitlam Studio Photography

As a mom, I know that I don’t always feel like having my photo taken.  I’m tired, I’ve probably got some food substance stuck to my clothes, and my mind is running through various endings to how the latest “adventure” my sons are trying to achieve via superhero capes and couch jumping is actually going to end.
But, as I look back in our photo albums from the past few years, I realize that I have been missing.  I am the photo-taker, the organizer, the one that gets everyone else ready and is overlooked in our family photos.  I want to have photos of me, enjoying my kids, enjoying the moments when they are little, for us to look back on in the years to come.  I want my kids to have photos to remember me, at this age, at this stage.

I am offering Mommy and Me mini sessions on May 24th to capture this time, these moments in your life with your little ones.  The sessions will be 15 minutes (just long enough to capture some great emotions, expressions, moments and then send you on your way with some home baked goods.) and you will receive 2 digital images with a print release, and a password protected online viewing gallery with your session images.  All a la carte prints and digital files will be discounted for this promotion – 50% off the regular prices which can be found by visiting my website, www.kimculbert.com – Pricing.

Please contact me if you have any more questions, or if you would like to book your session.  Let your man know if this is something that you would like as a Mother’s Day gift and get him to contact me at kim@kimculbert.com.  Bookings are limited, and it’s first come, first served.  There are approx. 10 sessions in this time frame.

Take the leap and capture yourself with your children… they’ll thank you for it later.

Spring time is BABY time!

This year April and May seem to be the baby months…. so many little ones being born!  This week I get some snuggles from a brand new Mr. E, and then I should be hearing some great news from Resha about her birth!

Throwback Thursday – Coquitlam Newborn Photographer

It just came to me that I have only been photographing newborns for 3 1/2 years.  It’s such a part of my life and work now that, to me, it feels like I’ve been doing it forever. My spare room is stuffed full of baskets, blankets, hats, fabrics, and when I walk through stores I look at things and wonder, “Can I put a baby into that?”

Here is a look-back at one of my very first newborn shoots, and then a comparison to one from a few weeks ago.  I think I’ve come a long way!

kim culbert photography goes bloggy!

I am so excited to be venturing out into the world of blogging.  I have always admired people who keep a blog, and can commit to making it an exciting place for others to visit.  This blog will be where I showcase my sessions with my fabulous families,  share insights and tips on how to take better family photos, and let you peek into my life with my husband and crazy two boys.

I’ll end with a picture of said boys… I am so thankful for these moments where all is giggles and hugs! My two boys
